How Much Does Car Detailing Cost in Essex?

Real numbers rather than 'contact us for a quote'. What each service costs, why prices vary so much, and what you should be suspicious of.

At a glance

Valeting starts at £60, a full valet at £150. Paint correction with a ceramic coating runs from £350 to £990, depending on how many machine stages the paint needs. XPEL film starts at £990 for a full frontal, £1,400 for a track pack and £3,000 for the full car. Every figure is a starting point until someone has seen the car.

Most detailing websites will not tell you what anything costs, which makes it very hard to work out whether you are being quoted fairly. So here are our actual guide prices, what drives them up or down, and what to be wary of when comparing.

Valeting: £60 to £150

A mini valet starts at £60 and covers a safe wash, wheels, glass, a vacuum and an interior wipe down. It is for cars already in reasonable order that need a refresh.

A full valet starts at £150 and adds chemical decontamination, tar and fallout removal, a deeper interior clean including the boot, and a protective sealant on the paint.

A full interior reset also starts at £150 and is entirely focused on the cabin: strip-out vacuum, fabric extraction, leather cleaning and conditioning, headlining and vents.

Monthly maintenance starts at £60 per visit and keeps a car in condition rather than rescuing it.

Paint correction and ceramic coating: £350 to £990

This is where prices vary most between companies, and where the numbers need explaining. Our packages run from £350 for an enhanced finish through to £990 for multi-stage ultimate perfection, and every one includes both the correction work and the ceramic coating itself.

What moves the price is how many machine stages the paint needs. A single-stage polish on a well-kept newer car is a day's work. Multi-stage correction on a badly swirled dark car, testing pad and polish combinations panel by panel, can take several days. You are largely paying for machine hours.

Paint protection film: £990 to £3,000

A full frontal XPEL install starts at £990 and covers bumper, bonnet, wings, mirrors and headlights. A track pack starts at £1,400 and extends to A-pillars, sills, rear arch edges and door cups. Full body coverage starts at £3,000.

Film is the most vehicle-dependent of everything we do, because panel size and complexity vary enormously. A supercar bumper with complex vents is a completely different job from a hatchback.

Why every detailer says "from": because vehicle size, paint condition, paint hardness and the amount of correction needed genuinely change the hours involved.

A firm quote should come after someone has actually looked at the car. Anyone giving you a fixed price for correction over the phone, without seeing the paint or taking depth readings, is guessing.

What drives your price up

  • Vehicle size. An estate or large SUV has considerably more panel area than a supermini.
  • Paint condition. Heavily swirled paint needs more machine stages, which is more hours.
  • Paint hardness. Some manufacturers use notoriously hard clear coats that take far longer to correct.
  • Colour. Black and dark colours show every defect, so achieving a clean finish takes longer.
  • Interior condition. Pet hair, ground-in dirt and stains add real time to an interior job.

What to be suspicious of

Be wary of a ceramic coating quoted at a very low price with no mention of correction. Coating is the cheap part; correction is where the labour is. If nobody is discussing the condition of your paint, they are planning to seal your swirls in.

Be wary of PPF quoted without reference to your specific model. Pattern data and panel complexity vary too much for a generic figure to be meaningful.

And be wary of anyone unwilling to show you a test panel before committing to full correction. Seeing the achievable result on your own car, in their lighting, before the money is spent, should be standard.

Getting a real number

Send us the make and model, roughly how the paint looks and what is bothering you about it, and we will come back with a realistic figure. If the honest answer is that a £150 valet will get you most of what you want, we will say that rather than sell you correction you do not need.
